The past few weeks Jedi Mud has been on my mind again (Thanks Vince for the Wikia updates). I got to thinking about what really keeps me from playing once in a while other than the normal time constraints of life. The answer I came up with is the pain of Corpse Retrieval. Often I have to leave in a split second and the idea of losing year’s worth of gear tips the scales of balance heavily towards the don't log in and risk it side. With this in mind I came up with the following ideas which I think most / all could agree would be terrific additions to the game system. If any of these things have been implemented since i have been gone forgive me.
Option 1: I would like to see the ability to pay the "Ferry Man" to take me back to my corpse with a !Violence flag preventing mobs from attacking me for a set amount of time and from my attacking them thus allowing my me to retrieve my corpse and belongings. After i collect my things i am removed from the zone, or a timer set to remove me from the zone and back to the starting point prior to the !Violence flag being removed. This option would force the player to stop their exploring / playing and start from their respective stating point if they choose to pay the Ferry Man.
Option 2: I would like to see players have the ability to "Pre-Pay" for their corpse to be transported back to their game starting point, or a safe location near their game start location in the event that they are killed while playing / exploring. This would be an expensive option that should scale depending on the number of deaths they have that remort. This should also have a cost cap. This costs could also be a flat fee based on number of remorts a character has. An example would be $100k per remort, 12 remorts will costs you $1.2m for "life insurance".
Option 3: As a last option I would like to see players have the ability to pay for instant transportation (and a fly, invis, sneak, hidden, detect invis, buff) to the zone entrance where they died giving them a chance to rapidly recovery their corpse.
These are ideas and options. Feedback would be great.
**NOTE- I am aware that the chance of death and loss is a factor of game play. Other factors of game play should include a sense of security in the stability of game play which in my opinion includes a high success rate of rapidly recovering gear that one has spent considerable amount of time obtaining. If you want to increase exploring and game play add an additional layer of corpse recovery. These are my own opinions and should be looked at as such.
