I'm starting this thread to hear suggestions and ideas from everyone what they think would keep the mud challenging to all players.
Looking for challenges especially that would the hold veteran player interests to keep them from getting bored!

Each class getting its own form of the bard college would add challenge and encourage more value in mastering solo play also heightening the player's anticipation to utilize their skill in a monthly Paired Gauntlet.
Challenge and anticipation right there.

I've always pushed for in-game dynamic events like sudden swarm spawns of a certain type of mob in a specific area based on thematic story. so, for example, new thalos might experience a sudden vampire attack from the east and (fomorian-like) pcs would be targetted by the mob swarm. the whole mud would have to assist. they would carry quest tokens so it would be fun for all involved. if the mud pc population dropped below a certain amount, these wouldn't happen, so (like happy hour) ppl would be encouraged to participate in order to create conditions that would spawn a quest beast swarm. the swarms would not be as powerful as single quest beasts, obviously, but not so easy as to make them soloable.
they could be based on the actual zone mob with some additional mob attributes and procs. you could use the quest overlay that tam and arizhel devised...
i'd log in for that.
examples:
vampires/new thalos east gate vikings/new thalos north gate undead soldiers/new thalos south gate
armored soldiers/skara east gate undead pirates/skara north gate
trees/mid west gate goblins/mid west gate demons/mid south gate enfans/mid east gate orcs/mid east gate
etc.

Keep the ideas coming! With DG-triggers in for this new version, we can accomplish a ton of that.

message bump (see below), we need more things to do when doom has already been run. i can see a concern for new players but also i can see this happening easily. for the largest horde of mobs just give a room description on them that explains the mob is engaged with the local guard defense, yet at the same time remove aggro flags to keep it legit for newcomers and folks who just want to go on about their business.. this also makes it simple enough to isolate the entire horde being sentinel at one room per gate. with some hordes depending on location, you could make the captain/leader aggro. various procs would be established throughout the hordes, making teamwork essential and worth while.. increasing the value of the quest system as players arent just walking the world to find QB/Pellinore. send in angry mobs from ofcol and have it announced when it happens.
