JediMud will be down for most of today. A hard drive has failed, and needs to be replaced. This is a UNIX file system, so you know its a bit more involved then just replace drive.
I will announce when its done. It will take longer then usual because I do have a full day ahead of me.

Thank for the heads up!
I know it has been brought up in the past...sort of. And I don't know if it is already in place. But is there a paypal account or something that we can use to make donations?
I know there are a lot of costs associated with keeping JediMud up and running. And even if it is just a few bucks, it is better than nothing.

Hi All, Here is the update. I did lose the drive. However, I have complete backups as of last night. You may have lost anything in the early morning.
I am swamped, but luckily I have 30+ backups in the way of full and incremental's. I have replaced the drive, redid the OS, and reinstalled most of the packages. I however screwed myself on mysql, and did not realize it was not being backed up. I believe I have most of that data, and I can recreate it. That is what I am doing now... I have all the websites, game data, development data, and DNS, If I don't finish this tonight, It will be finished by tomorrow.
I will have the database recreated, once that is done I can add the backup restores and bring it up. I could just put the game up, but then I could not reboot once I get everything else in place.
I will have everything in place by tomorrow evening.
Sorry about this all, and if I did not have such a high work load atm, I would of had this done already.

update:
I have recovered DNS, EMail, the home directories (which includes Jedi), I am restoring the websites now.
I have delayed it a bit so add another drive and Mirror these 2 drives. I am not going to take a chance of having another drive fail and not be prepared.
I anticipate midnight the game will be back up.....
Here is the data on the last backups.
Backup# Type Filled Level Start Date Duration/mins Age/days Server Backup Path 20 full yes 0 6/9 20:00 50.4 13.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/20 26 incr no 1 6/15 20:00 5.5 7.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/26 27 full yes 0 6/16 20:00 50.0 6.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/27 28 incr no 1 6/17 20:00 6.5 5.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/28 29 incr no 1 6/18 20:00 5.0 4.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/29 30 incr no 1 6/19 20:00 5.5 3.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/30 31 incr no 1 6/20 20:00 7.2 2.0 /var/lib/backuppc/pc/jedimud/31

Also, gold is missing on chars....and the game's boards look like they were months or possibly a year old.

I see there is an issue. I have had 2 hours sleep in 48 hours now and grabbed the wrong player file. I have taken the game back down and will grab the pfile and restore the player objects back to what they should be.

I have restored the 6/20 player files, plrobjs, and aliases.... I have confirmed this is all the latest I had and players are now confirming they are close to up to date.
Boards are old, nothing I can do about this. I am working on the MOTD, IMOTD, changes and so on.
I am sorry I missed the wrong files being used.

I have had it confirmed. All player files/object files/aliases now are correct.
boards/text messages (motd, imotd, changes, news) all were old, nothing I could do about that. I have updated with the last post I put on those boards.
I will run a 2 hour Happy hour tonight starting at 8pm EST. This is for all the issues the dead hard drive caused.

The reason the game is currently down is there was a major storm in the area where the box is. Power is still currently out. Major storms rolled through central Ohio, and currently 259,000 people are without power. I will call the power company and explain that we have very anxious mudders awaiting the reboot. I will keep you updated as I receive updates.

This is an update I found this morning. Hope this helps everyone grasp the severity of what happened.
June 29, 2012, Severe Summer Storms Update: 9:45 PM, 6/30/2012 GAHANNA, Ohio – AEP Ohio has restored power to approximately 100,000 of the 660,000 customers affected by the catastrophic storms that moved through the state June 29. Approximately 523,000 remain without power at 9 p.m. today.
At the height of the storm, thunder, lightning and high winds of more than 80 mile per hour, knocked down transmission structures, poles, power lines and trees across AEP Ohio’s service territory. The central Ohio counties of Franklin, Delaware and Licking were the hardest hit, with approximately 345,000 customers affected.
Storm and Outage Details June 29, 2012, Severe Summer Storms Update: 9:45 PM, 6/30/2012 GAHANNA, Ohio – AEP Ohio has restored power to approximately 100,000 of the 660,000 customers affected by the catastrophic storms that moved through the state June 29.
AEP Ohio has more than 1,300 AEP Ohio and outside line resources and more than 300 various support personnel committed to restoring power to the customers who remain without service from the storm. Earlier today, Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared a state of emergency for the entire state.
This event affects not only Ohio but much of the eastern U.S. and reports indicate this storm is a larger event than Hurricane Ike that hit in September 2008, which affected approximately 650,000 of AEP Ohio’s 1.5 million customers. During Ike, wind speeds were recorded in the 75 mph range. Restoration for the majority of the customers affected by Hurricane Ike was completed in about a week.
The latest assessment report shows that 426 distribution circuits out were out of service from the storm. (A distribution circuit will carry anywhere from several hundred to several thousand customers.) Crews have restored 126 of those to service. Of the 300 circuits still out, 81are related to transmission line outages.
Damage continues to be assessed on-ground and via aerial patrol. Reports of wires down and other hazards across the AEP Ohio service territory has grown from 4,700 this morning almost 9,000 tonight.
Report problems in your area using our online reporting system.
Status Of Restoration Efforts
At this point, restoration is expected to continue for at least 5-7 days for the majority of the customers affected. This is an early estimate that could change if additional damaging weather hits the area.
Initial estimated event restoration times follow. These restoration times will be updated on an ongoing basis as assessment continues and repairs are made. Again, these are early estimates that could change if we experience additional damaging weather.
Estimated “Event” restoration times by affected area:
Note: All times are for 90 percent restoration
Columbus Area Delaware: Midnight July 2 Northeast: Midnight July 8 Northwest: Midnight July 7 Southeast: Midnight July 6 Southwest: Midnight July 3
