After playing since 95, I'm finally doing something productive and additive to the mud. Yes, I'm building an area. I have a clear vision of what I want to accomplish and some ideas involving devices, directions and procs that'll hopefully add to what people realize is possible.
I submitted my idea, and it's tentatively OK.
90 rooms, 25 mobs and 40 items total. Yes, it's quite a large number of everything for a first time build, so I broke it into 2 stages. 30 rooms, 15 mobs and 20 items first, then the rest 3 months after that.
If I finish this area quickly (Less than the 6 month total time line I have), I'll probably build another area. What theme/area/items should I build?

Gauntlet with 15-20 rooms and each room the mobs become harder and harder....
Ranger college something similar to bard college
level 20-30 area for exp...similar to training ground for up to level 20.

Ranger college should be actually keyed to the different ranger guildmasters wandering the mud I'd think. Or at least have them each have a ranger danger challenge room.
A 15-20 room gauntlet would be an interesting way of building but why not just participate in the gauntlet quest?
Level 20-30 xp run for me looks like this: Weeden, Gargoyle, Black Dragon, High Priest (perhaps little priests for align), Wayhouse, Ching, Door, Turtles, Ray, Kraaken, Statues, Flayer, repeat. Yes, SW can be thrown in there for variety and other mobs as well, but it gets... monotonous. I'd like to see a new mob or 20 thrown into the mix. Are you a mage? If yes, stand behind a cleric that is fighting a weeden mob and healing it. Cast spells. Once you can, invisible nuke goths. Are you a cleric? If yes, quake is your friend. Goblin Caves, Some enfan rooms, priests, star wars, guards, nephews, attendants, tuna, sanc city, hawkeyes, repeat Are you a thief? If yes, stand behind a cleric that is fighting a weeden mob and healing it. Circle. Or you could always backstab guards. Are you a paladin? Try the abyss... over and over again. Are you a warrior? Damage output kings of the mud make silly xp as white damage. Don't disarm, don't pound, bash, pummel or kick. Just dhit. The only time you're going to disarm is when your cleric runs out of mana. Are you a bard? Running Anstruth actually can be good for xp, once you've got the gear illusion and mirror images make you an amazing damage dealing tank. Or assist. Are you a ranger? Find a R30 and make a skin set. +3 dam gear on every slot is the key to victory here. As an added benefit, you can use that same skin set on pets. If the weather is bad, call lightning. Are you a jedi? Find a friendly cleric and take on mobs you shouldn't be able to stand up to damage wise. Sanc + orb = win. Are you an Antipaladin? shield charge, shield bash, cure critic and damaging spells make clerics wish they were you. Are you a Ninja/sohei? Too bad, nobody wants to group with you until you're lvl 29 anyway.
