Perennial Quests
After experiencing the first quest-overlay in Octoboer of 2006, I knew that this type of quest approach might be adapted to a running (perennial) quest which would provide endless opportunities for immersive in-game stories.
Imagine that the Wizard of Artica declares war on the Lords of Skara Brae, crafting an unholy alliance of Frost Giants and Ice Demons. The overlay quest mob "set" would be modified to suit a current "crisis" or game theme. In this case, several mobs suited to attack from Artica would be designed, with a couple of quest assembly items.
No formal quest would be announced, but players would gradually notice a new set of wandering mobs in the affected zones, (aggro if need be), and the word would get out.
The overlay could be "tuned" so that only those zones adjacent to Skara Brae would load "invaders".
These overlay quests could run all-year, changing every few months or weeks depending on how motivated we are.
