DT's are fun. Asking people to post their favorites has probably been done... so how about posting an open challenge to write a description for a new one? Have any creative ideas? Express them in writing!
Here's my latest attempt:
Wed to the Swamp
A rough pit has been hacked into the rotting sphagnum.
It is shoulder deep and several feet across, about the
right size to be a shallow grave. A couple of inches
of black, acidic water cover the bottom, nearly obscuring
some tiny white stones scattered carelessly on the floor
of the pit. The cultists’ chanting reaches a fevered
pitch, drums pounding a savage tempo, bagpipes keening
obscenely. A muted splash, nearly impossible to hear
over the din from the frenzied cultists is the only warning.
Stout leather cords loop around your arms,
pinioning them helplessly to your sides. Another loop
settles delicately around your neck, but then jerks taut
with a sudden savage bite into flesh. Knots tied in the
braided leather cord dig deeply into muscle, constricting
blood vessels and clouding your eyes with a black haze,
robbing your franticly twitching limbs of their desperate
strength. The deed is done before meaningful resistance
can be mounted. A crude obsidian knife slashes, causing a
storm of tiny crimson raindrops to cascade into the bottom
of the pit. Your life’s blood leaks from the hideous wound
in an instant and the zealots lower the exsanguinated
corpse into the bitter, stagnant water of the swamp.
