So you always wanted to help improve Jedimud, make your own mark on Jedimud, just wondered if you could. This is your chance. Ching is building items for each home town guild shop for those true newbies. Everybody hates it when you gather up newbie equipment in the newbie zones and it zaps you and falls off at 8th level and you can not solo, or even know where to run the equipment you need to survive. To help out with this situation I am populating each home town guild a shop with items to buy. Any give class would need to hit each home town, which can safely be done via the shuttle, to buy all the equipment except for rings and combat-holdables. I have already worked out all of the Paladin equipment, and we have implemented the Midgaard paladin shop, including adding the needed room and shopkeeper. I will finish off Skara Brea and New Thalos Paladin shops and those items. However I would like a hand with a 'mid level equipment' similar to what you find in the paladin guild's shops. No need for paladin (done), ranger or bard (remort only classes are not for 'true newbies.') Requirements 1) using the jedi world builder (to make items with) create your suggested item (usable by only that one class) with all the flags etc. 2) save it to a text file, clip out the object description from the text. 3) post it here with first a brief narrative description (explain it in english.) eg a Minimum Level 7 light which also gives +1% mana regen called "the light of reason" for a wizard. Then the actual post of the item description the world builder makes. Remember, they can not be more powerful than the current 'good equipment.' The idea is to allow people to be able to buy usable equipment which will help them play right off. The prize is if you get your equipment idea into the game. I also reserve the right to edit equipment to make it more in line with what we want. No character names are to be in the equipment, that is what "remort rewards" are for.

FYI, you will need a zone number and item number. Just use zone = 30 (midgaard) and item 12345. We will update the zone and item number. You just need to get into the .wdb file (use generate, see next post) and clip out the plain text portion for the item and post that on this board. I know several of you out there are working on them, thank you. I know the tool can take a bit to get used to. Just enter the zone and item number and it works well enough.
Note No rings. There are tons of rings about and I want people to have to run for at least one thing, and rings seemed easy enough. That leaves Lamp, neck, body, head, legs, feet, hands, arms, shield, about body, about waist, wrist, wielded, and held.
There is hardly a need for held, but not every newbie has a wizard who can enchant a holdable, and I have seen too many with an unenchanted whip etc. This will give them at least something. That leaves 14 items to create, one extra for a special 'food' item for each class. The food is just for fun also.
I would like to see detailed descriptions etc. Use your 'roll playing skills' and pretend you are a Gaming Master (DM, etc.) Make the item as 'real' with the descriptions, and sub descriptions. Add inscriptions/embroidery/icons/pictures/etc under the additional descriptions tab. Just mess about with the builder tool and you will get the hang of it.

Help with the Jedi World builder. Some things frustrated me when I first tried to use this. The .wdb file is full of trash. You eventually want to "generate" our files. Here is a simple way I found to do it easily enough. 1) Start the wldbuild.exe program (windows or emulator) 2) edit --> Edit Zone (for this quest we will use 'midgaard' stuff. Zone Name -----> Midgaard Zone Number --> 30 Start Mob # ----> leave 0 (I will do the mobs & rooms) Start Item ------> 3116 3) Objects --> Add Item be sure and review the www.jedimud.com/builders.html site to know what 'kind' of item you want to create, and the options. They are all there on the the pull down menus in the world builder tool, but it is good to know all of the options. 4) "save" your file to disk (file--> save, or save as (pick a name)) 5) Generate code (file --> generate.)

Here is an idea for a thief weapon. A shank, it is useful but not too powerful. I have an idea for a chainsaw for antipaladins along with a goalie mask, but was told it was not 'medieval enough.' #12411 shank~ A sharpened shank of metal.~ A broken piece of metal~ ~ 5 dePQSTUVWX AN 0 6 2 16 6 3 200 20 E shank~ A piece of metal broken off, and sharpened against a rock, with a rag wrapped around the dull end. ~ A 18 3 A 2 1

Ok first of all I'd just like to say this is a great idea. I applaud Ching for his spearheading of this project as well as all those who have contributed ideas.
New players have been very long overdue to get more gear especially considering the lack of anything useful in the newbie zones. However I've been keeping an eye on people using the first set of paladin items and within very short periods of time these items end up in donation rooms or simply dropped in the dirt. Unfortunately these players are often simply getting better items directly from the donation rooms!
More often than naught I've had new players asking me, 'Where can I get that belt' or 'What are decent handwear for my class?' When most people are asked these questions, they answer and tend to provide multiple ideas, mob locations and some even load the items for the newbies. What I'm trying to get at is the stuff people sell to the armouries or even drop in donation rooms surpasses all these new store items, even the ones still in the development stage. I'm not saying these items wouldn't make a decent crutch when level 9 rolls around and the entire newbie set falls off, a minute of help from your average player and the newbie has better stuff than the stores can provide.
I realise the stores can't just hand out overpowered eq but we need to provide players with stuff more in lines with regular eq instead of the rubbish they're newbied with. Its no surprise most newbies quit when they're being killed by spiders and rabbits... But at least think about it instead of dismissing it as the ramblings of an actual player who spends x number of hours a week here and has for x number of years.

For the future builders out there, would you mind explaining some of your weapon's data descriptors? www.jedimud.com/build/On the Jedimud web site, you can get the builders guides. They have the objects which you can reference to know what all of the fields translate to. The shank is a "stab" weapon which is thief only minlevel 6 +3 to hit, +1dex doing 6d2 damage.

I wanted them to all be useful, but I wanted the "normal equipment" to be better. I built the equipment to be there for people who had no idea where or how to get equipment. It will also be handy for people who DT and want to not mud naked. If we find that there is a real need to beef up this equipment it can be done. This is just my first pass in my 'endless free time' I have with real life, family life, work, etc. I am hoping that those of you out there will put in items. For instance I can up Jipp's shank from 6d2 to 6d3 (but 6d4 or 6d6 would be right out, as that is "normal, or high powered" equipment level.) Please keep up the feedback.
