This has been discussed by the admin before. This would take a LARGE work effort to code it. Please go read the builders docs off of the jedimud.com web site to get an idea on how things are currently done. Then you would have an idea on how totally different this would be.
We have done this in the past for quests, however to do so some Immortal, frequently more than one, gives up running the quest because they load and distribute the prizes while as invisible as they can get. So it would be a value add for us also to have the random load for quests. Note, we have already added the assembly code for making 'in game quest items.'
The down/bad side to the in game quest items, is the people who publish how do to them in web sites. I know I put work and thought into makeing the Ephod quest fit logically into the game, and made it so you had to use different characters to get the different parts. You could figure it all out from what I thought were easy to find talking clues, they were all in towns after all!. However I only know of 4 people who actually ran the WHOLE quest. By that, they actually figured it all out. I guess it is the modern trend of wanting the rewards without any work.

how right ching is! so absent a team of coders, let's go back to the tried and true methodology of human elbow grease.
to accomodate our unquenchable thirst for variety, i am currently putting together a series of mud soap opera quests.
like all soaps, they will weave a web of high drama about existing mobs in the jediMud world. if you happened to stumble upon a clue, you could optionally tell a friend or keep it to yourself. prizes would be rather tiny in comparison to giant quests, but they'd be secondary to the unique new story-lines they are intended to offer.
love triangles, court intrigues, treacherous villany, and the morality plays of evil vs. good would come to the small screen weekly. placed on paths less travelled, they would entice those who don't already spend an inordinate amount of time resetting mobs for equipment loads.
arizhel and i have put together a prototype and were about to test implement it when the disks failed. (this first quest was actually run about four years ago as a parchment quest and generally received positive reviews.
so, anyway, it would be nice to see other IMMs dust off their creative hats and pitch in with human assisted mini-quests that are simply extensions of the current world lore.

Don't let this silver-tongued little rascal fool you -- he wrote the quest, I just gave the nod of approval.

I do agree about the whole Ephod quest thing. People really lack a sense of honor sometimes... the same holds true w/ the various swords, the lightsabre, and other random objects... if it's a quest, then keep it as such. Don't go off telling everyone and their mothers how to do it. If you knew how to win a quest, would you tell an opponet(sp) how to as well? I wouldn't. Honestly, I enjoy the thrill of finding things on my own... DOOM is a great example of that. I have many friends on the mud, but the last thing that I will do is hand out DOOM dirs to them (even though I have yet to actually enter inside... *shudder*). But yes... I am totally interested in helping out/thinking up new quest ideas. I am generally stupid when it comes to being creative and such... but I'd be more than happy to sit and brainstorm via MUD, IM, e-mail, or whatever... and any experience helping someone run a quest is always welcome -Nic
