You'll receive a briefing kit, including, but not limited to: an in-ear/vocoder language translator, local currency, maps, immunizations, and light-weight defensive equipment.
Choose wisely.
Then, explain your choice, if you would. I've purposely included most of the Ages upon which the various classes of JediMUD are loosely based.
As I'm currently working my way through the Old Testament, I'm fascinated with the First Temple Era of the Israelites. At that time, Rome had not as yet placed a yoke upon Palestine and the surrounding Philistine Kingdoms. The Library at Alexandria was just a few weeks from Sidon by shallow draft boat. The glories of Babylon and the Kingdoms of the Euphrates had not yet been lost to the sands of time.
Each of these periods in history may be further researched on the Internet, (the poor man's time machine), should you be interested in their particular significance.

I'd be picking the future... I've always felt I was "born too early" and I know damned well I'd suck in the medieval ages without any of my modern conveniences... Tho' I'd go for something further than 148 years in the future and I'd have to bring some people (and my kitties) with me That being said, if I could have multiple shots at moving around, I'd spend a good bit of time in Renaissance Italy studying art with the true masters.

I picked the future also for several reasons. 1) I know how the past turned out and it frequently sucks. 2) You can't change the past, as whatever choices you personally have yet to make you have already made them in time, just not your personal experiance. 3) The future, like our time now, is still the grand unknown, more or less. Yea, I would love to take people with me. Espcially my wife, maybe family (adults), and a few ready friends.

I would go to ancient Egypt, if I could be a cat.
Now that would be the life.

To answer the question, the future. I agree partially with Ching. We know the past (although I would dispute this - we only know broad, sweeping statements and what was recorded) and as this is a one-shot ride, I prefer the luxury of modern convenience. I know, that's not romantic but neither is dying of tooth decay at the age of 28.
Besides, I'd probably open my mouth and get myself executed in a violent manner for being a witch, or spreading heresy, etc.
I still need to plough through my 10 part 'Illustrated History of the World' by J.M Roberts - one of the few items I bought from a Time Magazine promotion that popped through my letter box. I find history - certain historical periods fascinating - for how at one level, they record a moment in time and on another, for taking a sweeping view at the dynamics in play.
I'll look at those time periods in the poll in more detail. Food for thought.
Regards, Cordelia
P.s. I tried reading the Bible once after an old friend recommended it as a completely "rock and roll" book. He described it as less a historical or religious document, rather more a book filled with "sex, violence, pillage and rape. It's great!".

Well, I chose imperial Japan. Why? Well for one thing, I already half-speak Japanese (if anyone can half-speak anything), and I study a lot about the Japanese. I also have a thing for Japanese women (the hot ones anyhow) =x
Japan is a clear choice!
Nippon!

When I read the topic, my first thought was that someone passed out and woke up somewhere else at a later time, with no recollection of the intervening time. At least that is what I call time travel.

The past is the past, although it would be nice to see how things really turned out vs. what was recorded, but I'd wind up being executed for heresy.. that and I knew I should have recharged my phaser rifle before going back in time and challenging the King for his Kingdom.
Jumping forward in time, dunno - with all the birth control converting male fish into female fish, and us, drinking said water, I might be the only man left to repopulate the world. I know, its a hard job, but someones got to do it.
