There is a bard ability that's badly missing since... forever.
I'm speaking of the ability to initiate fights with shopkeepers or !violence mobs. In the 'good ol' days, characters had access to any skills and simply failed if they didn't have it practiced, so anyone could: steal/stun/pummel/etc... to initiate a fight, it didn't matter if you failed the skill since the point was to start the fight. But ever since the mass overhaul to cut pet 'abuses' that option isn't available anymore.
Bards are supposed to be a mix of melee and magic class. All other melee and melee hybrids have a way to initiate combat with the afore mentioned mobs, isn't it time bards were given the skill?
Most people agree that bards should have it, even Ching says they do. But all I hear is a lot of talk and no action. Are there plans in motion or is it still theorical and on the back burner for 'whenever'?
What I suggest is this:
Taunt
Level: B25 Cost: none
Target: any one monster When: non-combat or combat
Delay: three rounds Duration: instantaneous
Effect: Using their renowned silver tongue and gift with words, a
bard can insult and enrage his victim into attacking him.
Higher cha will increase the chance of success and may
reduce the duration of the subsequent delay.
Usage: taunt <victim>
