[shadow=red,left,300]Idea![/shadow]
There has been some discussion about ways to customize your character's skills and such towards a particular goal or ideal, and I thought I would share something that I'd seen on another mud, because it is quite the thing there, and may be an answer to the questions being asked!
In said mud, to learn new skills and such, you go to the academy, and you enroll in which classes you would like to take. There are many sorts of classes, some for healing, some for killing, some for growing stuff, some for whatever you like! There is a cost for each class, of course, with the introductory, basic courses being relatively cheap, and with the 400-level courses being outrageously expensive. After you select your desired class, you are required to attend a certain number of class sessions (no athletic scholarships here!) before you are certified for and able to use that skill. You are limited to attending class once per machine day, which prevents fabulously rich people from going from Beavis to Einstein in one sitting. Also, as you might have already guessed, some classes require prerequisites: you cannot take Biomancy 2 before Biomancy 1, for instance. Some classes also require certain levels, stats, etc. for enrollment. Beavis cannot enroll in Physics, regardless of money or prerequisites, if his INT is not at least 15.
It's a pretty neat system, and I think that it could have some handy applications on Jedi. Just think, mages might actually be able to take fencing classes! Or warriors learn first-aid! Or Sohei learn to do something useful! The proceeds from the classes could go to many useful community projects, such as the Teach Ching Spelling Foundation, or the Save Koofy Fund, or the Torture The Whiners Organization.
Whaddya think?
