Great:
1) Longevity of the mud + player base. 2) Long uptimes. 3) No rent, no detriment to age (don't NEED to "maintain" your chars). 4) Regular player base at the hours I play. 5) Remorting. (haven't done that yet) 6) Chained loads. (haven't loaded that yet)
Not so great: 1) DTs really suck imho. Even though I haven't lost any awesome eq, I've lost the best I've had at the time. I speak for the silent minority of players who hit a DT and then quit the mud. It's made me risk-averse and explore-averse as a new player. To be honest, the only reason why I'm still running in the mud is because of the DT list on forums and the Zone list warnings on the wiki. I'm putting in client triggers that do say and rest based on exit, and while it works for me, it might not work for other newbies.
Other than the above, it's all G baby!

I think everyone will agree that DT'S are painful.
Luckily in 5.8 (newest version of game code and updates which is coming soon) you can buy insurance for the gear on your characters. This means if you have insurance and DT the char that is covered you get your gear back.
For ppl like me this is very nice. I have hit more than half of the DT'S in the game and several multiple times.
ATM in the game there are Get out of DT free cards (Monopoly jail card knock off) that do the same thing. They are Quest only items but there are a few around still. Side note would not hurt to run some quests to pass a few more or these out IMO.

Thanks Destiny! The upside is that the long-term players were supportive (especially kupok) and if you're going to hit a DT, it's better to do it early. I upgraded to cmud and put in some simple triggers for when I'm exploring. I try to x-ref the DT list here and the zone list on the wiki when I'm exploring, and the triggers are just a fallback until I learn the mud better. -johnh

More notes:
The player base here is filled with experts who are willing to share advice if a newbie wants to listen. I'm not used to boards, wiki's, or powerful clients like cmud, but it's all fun.
I practice many arts (even outside of bed - lol), and I'm not really in a position to judge anything, even my own thumb, but I have to say that I think that mudding well is an art that I want to keep practicing.
The update on policy multi is really special to me, since it was broken with I first started. I know I should be helping to test the new codebase, but I know I don't really have the skills yet to find anything but a really bad flaw.
Other than that, it's all good in the hood! I vote once a day and then just have as much fun as I can!

Another suggestion: On the "vote for the mud" locked thread, the URL is hard to remember for mobile devices. Maybe something like this would be better? www.topmudsites.com/vote-jedimud.html
