IMPORTANT: Please read carefully!!!
For the time being, if you hit a DT you will simply be transported
back to the main menu, equipment intact. This is only a stopgap
measure, however, intended to prevent equipment loss until 6.0 can go
live with a brand-new DT system. Our ultimate goal is not to render
DTs free of penalty altogether, but to change the nature of that
penalty to something less draconian than equipment loss.
In 6.0, DTs will work as follows:
1. Every character will receive a AFF_DT flag which will prevent them
from suffering any ill consequences from the first DT they hit,
regardless of what level they are at the time. Existing characters
will be given the flag when 6.0 goes live, and new characters will be
created with it in place. Once a character hits a DT, their AFF_DT flag
will be removed, and DTs will affect them as described below.
2. If a character has a get-out-of-DT card, it will work identically
to a AFF_DT flag. If the character hits a dt while he or she has both a
AFF_DT flag and a get-out-of-dt card, the flag will be used first. The
get-out-of-dt card will automatically purge itself upon use.
3. Characters levels 1-5 with no remorts are exempt from DTs. They
will receive a special newbie-friendly warning message explaining what
a dt is and be transported back to their hometown. The AFF_DT
flag will still be utilized, if they still have one, but even if they have
already used it, they still suffer no further penalties other than
re-reading the warning message. In the extremely unlikely event that
a true newbie possesses a get-out-of-dt card, it will not be purged
until he or she hits a dt at level 6 or above.
4. If a character has neither a get-out-of-DT card nor a AFF_DT flag,
hitting a DT will result in the character being unable to enter the
game for a default period of 7 days. In game logic, this constitutes
the time necessary for the body to heal from mortal injuries and the
equipment to be retrieved from an extremely dangerous location.
4. The first 24 hours of the waiting period is mandatory. The
remainder, however, may be shortened, if the player wishes to instead
pay a fee. In game logic, this constitutes hiring superbly proficient
private healers and a private retrieval squad. The amount of the fee
will be level-based: 10k/day for levels 6-10, 500k/day for levels
11-20, 1M/day for levels 21-30, and 2M/day for characters with any
number of remorts. The following message will be used at the menu:
"Due to the fatal injuries you sustained during your recent brush with
death in <name of deathtrap>, the JediMUD team physician has not yet
cleared you to play. You will be unable to play this character for x
days, x hours, and x minutes, unless you choose to seek private
magical healing at a cost of x per day remaining, for a total of x,
and begin playing again in x hours and x minutes (substitute
'immediately' here if the minimum 24 hour period has already passed.).
If you have further questions, please log in a different mortal, or
create a new character, and type help deathtrap or help DT."
