Some skill ideas for ninjas:
1. Smoke Bomb - allows players to flee from a mob who blocks fleeing. It should last 2-3 rounds based on dex. Even more neat, if this reduced the flee xp penalty.
2. Ninja Tactics - at night, or 'in a dark room' against a mob who does not have infravision, the ninja should be able to have some tactical advantage over the mob. Perhaps something like backstab?
3. Shadow Strike - Ninja can throw a ninja star and immediately strike a mob in the room starting combat. The mob would strike back on the second round. This could have a chance of stunning the mob.
4. Trip - long suggested skill, mobs that flee are "tripped" by ninja so they don't get away.
5. Quick-Footed - roll away or dodge magic, can just affect area spells, but could be useful for spells directed at the ninja.
6. combat throw - a ninja can throw a ninja star in combat.
7. Trap - ninja can lay a trap for a wandering mob, when the mob enters the room the ninja can throw a handful of ninja stars into the mob and attack.
8. Poison Blade - ninja can poison his blade which gives it a temporary bonus. If you are fancy, you could add ingredients throughout the mud to make different poisons, some stronger then others. (should apply to thieves as well.)
9. Metsubushi (aka eye closers) - Ninja throws a 'small bomb' that contains ingredients that will blind an opponent.

Well besides being master assassins ninjas have become masters of martial arts in today's folk lore. How about some skills that kick 2 rounds in a row then 1 round of delay? or kick, punch? or maybe double kick and kick twice in one round? How about parry as a skill that can block multi hitting mobs for a round, for any of the fighting classes?

I like this idea of ninja being the only class that has parry which blocks all hits from multi hitting mob even when not tanking and get lagged for maybe 3 rounds.
This would allow them to be more effective in eq/exp groups

isn't this very similar to slow? maybe if a ninja were tanking then a mob could not multi-hit due to his extreme agility and fighting prowess....

I've always felt that a ninja is really just an assassin ... and an assassin is just a remort variant to a thief. Back to my desire to see some class--> remort progression, e.g. Mage -> Sohei Thief -> Ninja Warrior -> Bard or Jedi or Ranger Cleric -> Pal or Apal So everyone starts as a base class. Then you remort to the remort classes, which have weight restricts on their main remort-based weapons. Pretty cool. That forces newbies to learn the basics of the warrior/healing classes before taking on the esoterica of the remort classes. Whatever. Right now, a ninja is simply a thief that prevents toss.

i almost agree with your remort tiers.....
i love the idea of tiered remorts....but i think it should look more like a tree....ie
base classes: warrior cleric mage thief
remorts classes: apal/pal - must come from either cleric or warrior sohie - mage or thief ninja - thief or warrior
elite (?) classes bard/ranger - can come from any of the tier2 classes
god class jedi - i really think that it should be EVERYONE's goal to become a jedi....after all...it IS jedimud...a jedi should be the epitome of the perfect fighting machine....he can influence others to do his will...he can parry blows like no one's business....depending on alignment, he can cause massive spell damage....he can sense what is going on around him (dt awareness)...the list goes on and on....
of course...i really don't expect any of this to happed due to the fact that it would require an insane amount of work and a good portion of the current playerbase would get screwed on their current characters.....
anyways....just a few ideas.....

I'd throw in a hundred bucks. Anyone else?

There are lots of awesome things we could do at the expense of tossing player files and all those wonderful items we've collect for years.

Ninja thoughts from 2003....
Disarm- level should be lowered
Eagle claw- should act like a slay skill where if the mob fails a save you pull its heart out and it dies. Dependant on level/remorts/dex.
Ddoge-a smaller version of ranger dodge 1-4 rounds depending on dex and luck.
Shadow Kick-a multi round kick that is more powerful then the current kick. You'd kick 3 rounds in a row with some delay.
Steal-take this away from ninja they are not common thieves
Missile Dodge-ability to dodge fired weapons.
From watching kung-fu movies and with the addition of Live by the sword for paladins was thinking ninja should have specialty skills for weapons. So weapons like staff, sai, sword, knife, etc. would have 3 levels of skills. 1st would be like an extra hit. Second would be maybe a hit,hit/kick/etc or hit,block/disarm/etc. Third would be like 2 hits and a defend skill. This could give them a buttload of skills the only problem is lack of weapons for this.

Ninjas have better cars. Ninjas attract better looking women at night clubs. That's about it.

This may be true - but a Thief will acquire a nice ride that looks very similar to the Ninjas... and wait.. that's his hot lady in the passenger's seat. Poor Ninja - car stolen and dumped.
It is Monday after all.

Maybe it's time to look at the Ninja class as a potential T remort path... so you have to start T to get to N (which is a murderous variant of the genus).
It would make the arena of the Thief Classes very interesting, almost like a Bardic College is, a clear path which invites renewed playerbase involvement.
Hey, I'll remort my T in order to get to A(ssassin) in order to get to N.
You could add additional filter layers like... if the remorting character didn't get to 300hp in their past life, they couldn't qualify to the next remort tier. If would force the motivated player to pay attention while morting a pre-remort track character.
This opens up a whole new way of looking at remorting.

Actually I'd vote for that in a heartbeat if the entire class was completely revamped to actually be useful for something besides critical hit and defend bodyslam.
Adding real requirements just to enable the remort is a great idea too as long as they can be achieved with realistic amounts of time spent. Specific stats, hp gains, even requiring a few +moveregen remorts or finding a special item to prove merit.

Another possible skill for Ninja...sand kick..it blinds a mob for like 2-4 rounds only usable during combat cost -moves.

Another cheap add would be the skill Taekiri (translates Confusion of the Enemy) in which the ninja is mirrored (ala bardic equivalent spell).
After level 25 or so, this skill would randomly kick out a couple of mirrors at intervals.
