if you had the good fortune to play the original game, or even if you've run across a ported variant of the seminal fortran version, you'll find this link answers all the questions you may have ever had about the colossal cave. www.rickadams.org/adventureif you're still not exhausted, then you can continue your pursuit of the origins of computer RPGs with this awesome url describing the creation of the G.U.E. (Zork I). www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/infocom/articles/NZT-Zorkhistory.txtin the winter of 1977, my resident advisor, henry unger, had a SOL computer hooked up to an acoustic modem and a tape recorder. i'd download the modem/terminal interface from the tape recorder and connect to USC's main computer switch using the 300 baud modem. since the ARPANET wasn't restricted, i'd login anonymous on the MIT-AI DEC 10 machine. i'd play zork until the sun came up. or until my resident advisor kicked me out of his room, or until the earth was destroyed by an asteroid, whichever came first.

Man, I used to play Adventure on my Tandy 1000.
I downloaded it. I still suck at it. *laugh*
It's right up there with Angband.
