I hear those money buying services totally screwed EQs economy up, forcing players to buy money just to keep up with others. One of those companies just recently bought another for like 10 million dollars or something like that.

Two words: Smurf EverCrack. Those of you who know what I mean will laugh. Those of you who don't... too bad!

why is it that sometimes spam mail will contain a veritable smorgasboard of random english words in the text? here's the contents of a message i received today, entitled coolheaded.
do the spam generators mine a random subject from this line?
out siberia blacken buddhist baffle animal pinhead veal bryophyte gymnastic forever abigail flare plumbago quarrel swum fool for aforethought nasturtium manslaughter skylight menace cigar errol anthem lathe slop courageous cranny resent pernicious canton cattail depressor spring concourse varitype southwest vitrify etch newsreel doze esoteric tomb aruba trouser cant shoehorn saturn abolish teletypesetting infancy testamentary midway mutiny pliable decomposable manfred smother
i especially like plumbago and pinhead, words i use so seldomly these days.

I find it more amusing that the ads at the top of the main board are 2 for EverCrack and 2 for Jewish Prayer Shawls.
What is the relation?

gads what does that do to the imaginary economy of a game to have billions and billions for sale on every other web page? rainbow staff, mb 2.5m... rough on newbies i would think!

so, everquest's monetary system is platinum based? at the going rate of US$900/oz, (twice that and then some of gold US$425/oz), 1 billion plat would be worth almost 1 trillion US dollars if each coin weighed one ounce.
platinum is a rare metal, and tougher to mint than other alloying metals. interesting choice.

I think he was having a chuckle at the corrolary of platinum in RL vs. platinum in EverCrack.
Platinum is rare and difficult to work with in RL, so it's valuable. In the game, it's just another coin, not to mention an inexhaustible resource. I mean, if you found a platinum piece on the ground, it'd probably be about the equivalent of finding a quarter on the ground in RL.
Actually, when you think about it that way, it's pretty funny.
They probably picked platinum to be 'original', since so many games use gold as the standard monetary unit. Even in D&D, gold is fairly ubiquitous, and platinum is reserved for the very rich.
Also, platinum sounds cooler. And stuff.

*laugh* As much gold as that bard has, it's only about .5% of the total economy. Hardly enough to put us into a depression.

Even still... My answer still stands With the game down, no way to run the command to show the general economy of Jedi.

okay, i'm dying to know... can you really filter total gold reserves held by all characters in rent/cryo?
my guess is 750,000,000 coins.

Um, dude, I know of a char with 695m gold coins on it, and a few others with 300m+, along with various and sundry characters with mere tens of millions or merely millions. *BZZZZT* Guess again. There's a -lot- more out there.

is it time to issue bearer bonds? the storing of 650 million gold coins, which is nearly 5,200,000 tons of gold, (given avoirdupois weight conversion of 16 oz/pound and 2,000 pounds to the short ton) would require quite a large cryo chamber.
...not to mention a bank vault.
...or a small storage planet.

What's even funnier is said character can simply walk into the bank and type "withdraw all".
Imagine carrying all that gold. You'd earn your very own massive gravitational pull in no time flat, collapse in upon yourself, and then explode, becoming a brand spankin new Sun. Right in Midgaard!
And where the HELL does the bank get all that cash??? We have to order cash on Mondays, and it doesn't get there till Thursday! Not to mention there's limits to how much you can keep on hand. Oh, and don't forget the report you have to fill out for large cash transactions. And you don't even have to show a valid picture ID!
Or maybe the bank just makes its own gold!
The auditors are going to have a field day.
