hmmm....define best....as in best for eq....most fun to run....most well written....best xp...what is the standards here.....
i think that for fun and eq...i have always liked rhyo...show me another zone that loads as much decent gear for as many different classes as rhyo...and it can be an interesting zone to run...mess up in there and you could have a bad night....
im not gunna go into xp zones....i am sure we have all spent plenty of time in them....
as far as well written....i have always loved ravenna...there is just a lot going on in there...i think that scipio is prolly a good zone as well...but i have not spent enough time in there to really take a look at it....the little bit that i have seen has been very intriguing though....*i am still begging for some of the drugs he was on while writing that zone*....
as far as worst zones....hmmmm....i think arcadia was a decent idea....and it could be a great area....but it seems like there is no interest among those with multi-remort chars to utilize it....i have to disagree with pix on owlery....i think that is a pretty neat little zone...lots of cool procs....hmmmm.....i dunno...i guess i am easily impressed with zones....i really dont have any that i actually hate...after spending some time writing areas i know the work that goes into them....so a weak room or 2 is understandable if you ask me....when my zones ever go in...you will see the rooms where i just got tired of writing....just dont laugh at me...and i hope i dont see my zones on one of these lists....

hmmm....define best....as in best for eq....most fun to run....most well written....best xp...what is the standards here..... mike Criterion used in consideration: 1. Zone Originality - Is the zone faithful to the source it was derived from? If original work, is it well-crafted and interesting? 2. Level of Detail - Does the zone boast unique features or characters? 3. Popularity - What percent of the player base are attracted to the zone? 4. Mobile balance - Is there a range of intra-zone mobile challenges in order to appeal to a broad playerbase, from large groups to solo artists? 5. Equipment balance - Does the zone lure more than one class? 6. Prose - How immersive is the zone prose? Is it well written? 7. Zone consistency - Does the zone feel like it belongs at JediMUD? 8. Key clarity - Did the builder create solvable quests and clearly defined locked paths? 9. Corpse retrieval - Can you readily get your junk back if you die? 10. DT factor - Are the death traps well marked? Was the BLDR just sadistic?

Blah. The two people who voted for Arcadia, I'd like to see you do better. I thought it was rather quirky and original given the niche it was suposed to fill. See, I was given a map, and told to come up with a basic zone framework. Any depth of character and what not was supposed to be written into it by the players, and we didn't want anything to overshadow what they added in. There -are- little fun things about it if you hang around long enough. Most of the mobs have speech procs, for example, including some of the guards on the walls. There's some nice extra descriptions on the street signs, too. In any case, I'm mostly kidding about the "doing it better" part. I'm just really rather snarked that people aren't -using- the remort town, but realistically, I can hardly blame them. EDIT - It makes a decent experience run for solo evil characters, too. I'm making good time running about the walls with my bard putting guards to sleep, then sticking knives in their backs. A thief could do pretty well, and probably a mage. Anyone with good 'instant kill' capabilities, since the guards do hit rather hard. So, yeah. There's a merit for you.

Please submit suggestions for zones that should be in this list. Actually Nellix hasn't been in for years. The little section you see by the Underworld is nothing but a tribute to it.

Personally, I think Sanctuary City is the best. The zone is massive, it has gobs and gobs of detail, the eq is spread out widely and it's nice to run for a wide variety of levels.
