Ok, before I stick a foot in my mouth, I was unapprized of the ZoTM thing & how it worked (were there choices to choose from, or was it a fill-in-the-blank sorta thing).
That being said, the hands-down coolest zone in the "current" jedi world is aralu. Why is it cool? Here's my top 10.
10) Wimpy-aggressive mobs. Not enough of them in the game 9) Fido-ing mobs. You die, you can be so SoL. 8) High-end eq loading on mobs with less than 100 hps. 7) Several multi-hitting mobs in rooms you can get tossed by another bigger mob. 5) Keys that are assembly required (think there are only two in the world, and one is here) 4) The demon room *shudder* 3) Moving DTs 2) A bunch of seriously underutilized eq loads there. 1) More mobs that can kick the everliving poop out of you than in any other non-doom area in the mud (an actual challenge *gasp*).
My change for a nickel.
-Theman who is keeping you down.

I put up a poll on this very board containing a few random zones, and had people vote on which one they wanted to see this month. I left it up for a duration of one week, and then started work on the page contents yesterday. There will be a new one every month, so not to worry. Eventually Aralu will make its way to the ZotM page. All of the old ZotM pages will stay active, as links to the 'areas' page.

even my imbalanced C30 won't take a step through the deadwood forest toward aralu's gates.
that place has my number, and i won't let its nasty inhabitants hang my corpse from the city walls ever again...
which is sad, because i think every zone ought to be accessible for exploration and sheer creative appreciation.
so here's a stupid idea...
how about limited guided tours of the zone of the week? you could set up an avatar at the gates of a particularly gnarly area that would leave twice an hour, for example. if you followed the avatar, you could be set !hassle and get a quick tour of the zone. if you stopped following, you'd be poofed back to your hometown.
the work would be in designing the loop, but it might be a fun way to check out a zone that you normally wouldn't step foot in without an M1-A1 ride.

Theman,
Excellent post on Aralu and I thoroughly enjoyed reading that another player actually enjoys a challenging zone that you have to plan for, where the margin of error is razor thin.
The problem? Like I found in EverQuest, not many other plans want to run exp, eq or even explore in those zones because of the perceived 'risk'. For me, the excitement is from forming a group and seeing how far one can progress through such a zone. Also, it's an ego thang to be respected as someone who is knowledgable and has experience of running such zones.
I tried exploring Aralu when Cordy was an Apal (sub-30), but I didn't plan i.e. no pfe, etc, and after exploring a few locations walked straight into the piest - sanc'ed, triple massacering through sanc mobs gave my Apal connipations! - and fled. End of exploration.
I have a baby Apal, a mid level Bard and a mid level Sohei - so I plan to pay a return visit to Aralu and maybe bring one or two other players who fancy exploring a zone a location at a time.
Note: I've been concentrating too much on levelling and obtaining EQ for my level rather than going back to basics and exploring. Starting to get the exploration bug back again and will make my way down the 'Help Area' file (hands down best resource in-game) to explore little known areas (and not just Aralu).
The older players are time and time again, the ones whose names appear on the Gauntlet winners lists because they have the knowledge that perhaps the younger players lack. Exploration, exploration and exploration is the key.
Regards, Cordelia
