Test your might. Pick your poison. Make yourself be heard and recorded in the annals of history. The most popular zone on this poll will be the next Zone of the Month. I'll take the results from the poll a week from today, and start work on it from there. And, for your information, we are not behind schedule. An administrator is never behind schedule; their tasks take place precisely when they mean them to!

Our winner, as you can see, is Drake Isle. If anyone has a bit of writing to submit about Drake Isle (see the Minos page for an idea of what I'm looking for), send it to me. My email address is in my profile. Artwork is cool too! Anything you'd like to see up on the ZotM page!

so here's a stupid idea... (from an earlier post on the aralu thread...)
how about limited guided tours of the zone of the week? you could set up an avatar at the gates of a particularly gnarly area that would leave twice an hour, for example. if you followed the avatar, you could be set !hassle and get a quick tour of the zone. if you stopped following, you'd be poofed back to your hometown.
the work would be in designing the loop, but it might be a fun way to check out a zone that you normally wouldn't step foot in without an M1-A1 ride.

besides a descriptive flourish for the zone of the month, when possible, would you mind adding a bit of historical information regarding the zone: where it first appeared (in the case of a stock zone), who the writer was, maybe a little info about the writer, perhaps some insight from the builder if available, and the motivation/derivation for the zone.
for example, one of my favorite zones is sanctuary. i had no idea that there are a series of novels that are set in and around this world.
how cool!

I like the zone of the month, but there seems to be a lot of time/effort necessary for it to happen, i am basing this on last i looked, a day before crash maybe, was still minos, so maybe should let minos stay for a couple months till you have enought in the queue that you have some backups for months when too busy to find time to update, just a thought

It's my fault it's not up. I was supposed to write the stuff two weeks ago, and have been working six days a week, playing D&D, having class-rev meetings, and having company over for supper.
In short, I'm exhausted. Ugh.
There is good news, though. Not only do I have some pictures already done to display as artwork representative of Drake Isle, but I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico.

So, after the machine is set up, we'll set drake up as our zone of the month. Any materials anyone wants to submit, please start shooting our way. Mainly, we're looking for pictures, stories (ficticious or real), commentary (somewhat detailed, not just "I went to drake and did/didn't like it), and other similar stuff. I heard rumors about some of our literary geniuses wanting to write some stuff for drake but haven't seen any. Soooooo.. hook us up and stuff. -Tam

"And know for something completely different."-- John Cleese, Monty Python
Until the machine is back, I've decided to promote myself to GRDN. My first official act in my new role is to offer a new feature: the Castle of the Week. Though I suspect that most of my colleagues are dead or, at the very best, in the last stages of fanstasy withdrawl, perhaps this will assuage their troubled spirits.
The feudal fortress of Loches is particularly impressive in that it is one of the tallest castles ever built, at approximately 40 meters in height. It is built on a long rocky outcrop which dominates the Indre river and surroundings. Fulk Nerra, Count d' Anjou, ordered its construction, sometime around 886 CE. Loches was one fortification that belonged to a whole of string of castles which he had built to protect his holding in the Loire region. Later, in XVth century, the King of France, Louis XI, imprisoned his enemies there (Cardinal Balue, the Duke of Alencon, Philippe de Commynes...). Louis XII imprisoned within it walls Ludovic Sforza, Duke of Milan (he left inscriptions on the walls) who died there on March 18, 1508. -- www.francebalade.comThe donjon at Loches is one of the most imposing keeps in existence, and stands to this day in nearly pristine condition. It consists of a main block and a large forebuilding, the latter, essentially part of the main building, and originally rising to the same height. The main block measures internally 65' in length, and averages 27' in width. The walls are 9'2" at the base, and are strengthened by huge semi-circular buttresses at the corners and sides, and rise through the four lofty stories to the height of 122 feet. -- Toy, S., A History of Fortification, pg. 76-77

So, you've had a rough day running Shudde M'ell? Looking for that little nudge, nudge, say-no-more to tide you over after your eventual all-night bender at the tavern in Ofcol? I present to you the... Wench of the Month, April 2004Matty, Daughter of Luxan, Ofcol
Matty has never married and lives with her six cats in the attic at the Inn. She enjoys collecting fresh-water crabs and playing cricket with the local boys when she's not catering to the alcoholics of Ofcol.

Heh, we should have had up 2 or 3 by now, but I've been working a lot. Drake's ZotM page should be up sometime this weekend, and I'll try to keep it semi-regular after that. If you have any material you'd like to see on the page, email it to arizhel@yahoo.com.
