Meh ... it seems to be still down. Could any of you poor overworked and underpaid admin people give out some kind of information about this? PS: You don't want a ranger on cold turkey, believe me! ;D

Any reason as to why the mud goes down so much for indefinite amounts of time in the last year?!..Don't want to piss off any, but it must be asked.

RE: Aneyou's question:
1) The motherboard failed. Used the downtime to upgrade hardware on the server and to playtest the new regen code, which took a good long time.
2) Very tricky corruption bug needed to be squashed so that you, the players, didn't lose the characters and equipment you've worked so hard to get. Note that in this case the mud was kept up for immortal social use.
Today's downtime? We lack data on this downtime. I expect the game will be back up shortly, though.

BAHHHHH. You all worry about the mud being down, I worry about the mud being up...wtf? (Forgive me for that statement, I am trying to figure out where I last placed my brain.)

I wonder why nothing has been posted to update us on the downtime.

IMHO I gotta go with protoclown on this one. A quick port scan with fscan or Nmap would tell you port 4000 is not up, even though the host is pingable. try these, fscan -p 4000 jedimud.com of NMAP -sS -P0 -p 4000 jedimud.com. This might be because another bug in the code that could affect the player file which I agree it was smart to keep it down until uni could fix it, and when hardware goes it goes, which isnt the case at this time, since the physical system is up. I just hope they use Compaq servers from now on, anything else is wacked..... ( Except for Slowaris:)) Wehr "You there with me" when the clown came in [INC][FOSSIL] EZ

I'm guessing it crashed and something bad happened when it tried to restart like the restart script was messed up.

Weird part is how does the restart script get F****cked up, unless someone was playing with it, or its not properly ACL'ed.
It should be simple as looking at the core dump file and doing ./(jedimud_daemon_process)
Maybe a debugger needs to be written to catch the exceptions and report them to a file.
