There will be one of these, also. I'm starting work on it soon. Item ideas are appreciated!

I'm shooting for 'before' but there's some RL things that may or may not interfere. 'After' gets dicey because of New Year's only being 7 days after Christmas, and the typical quest being 10 days in length. In any case, the 'before' I'm thinking of should end several days before the holiday itself. Dates and such will be posted when I get stuff together. For now, worry about the impending Halloween one.

I've added a poll to this thread! Now, I've already got a theme in mind, but it's fairly flexible, so don't worry too much about setting me back any. Item ideas are still awesome, though! Also -- even if I -do- use larger mobs, it'll be nothing like Easter's monstrosities. I learn from my mistakes. Look for something a little more reasonable in scope. ;D

Arizhel - how about *not* calling it a Christmas 2008 Quest, but rather Holiday 2008 Quest, so Chanukah and Kwanzaa items can be implemented.
I've always wanted to hold a menorah! Eat with Chanukah gelt, etc. etc.
Will be happy to give you Chanukah ideas.

Personally I despise the term "Holiday". If someone says "The Holidays", ok. If someone says Chanukah, great. If someone says Christmas, great. If someone says <insert holiday name here>, great. The PC, all-encompassing term, "Holiday" downright sickens me. So... if anyone does every do something like Hawkeye is suggesting, please call it "Winter 2009", "The Holidays 2009" or something a little less PS (Politically Sickening). Thanks! -Tam PS: I think she said she already had the theme anyhow, so I don't imagine this applies.

I like Holiday, too. In fact, what Tam so despises might be a great idea for a quest.
But you said you have a theme already...
All things being equal, you might offer an artifact from several different cultures in celebration of the "Holidaze"... or do a take on the twelve "daze" of Christmas...
daze being the operative word...

Well, after the Halloween quest....I'm looking forward to the Xmas quest which I hope starts after Christmas and not earlier. That will give us enough time to recover from the Halloween quest heheheh....and be able to spend time with family during Xmas.

Alright then. Chanukah it is. We've had enough Christmas quests for a game that's not religiously themed. Let's open it up to the other world faiths and pass it around a little. I think there are at least half a dozen jews that play JediMUD, including myself, that would be willing to contribute at least one idea for a theme that whoever is authoring this HolidayTime quest can run with. Let me know if you want my help and you've got it.

I like christmas. Christmas Christmas Christmas. No holidays, it holidays because of christmas. Take away christmas and you take away the holidays too, whether you like it or not....sooooo....Christmas!! And why would people want only small mobs....that would be so sickenlingly boring.

I like Holiday, too. In fact, what Tam so despises might be a great idea for a quest. Oooookay. I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or if my post wasn't read, so I'll clarify. I have -no- complaints about a quest that encompasses several holidays, from several cultures. As a matter of fact, I think it would be neat. My complaint is whenever people choose to replace any of these holidays (that have names) with the pseudo-name "Holiday" all in the name of political correctness. It's just plain sad. If someone celebrates Christmas, kudos to them. Merry Christmas. If someone celebrates Chanukah, kudos to them. Happy Chanukah. Etc. I even went to the extent of suggesting "The Holidays 2009" and "Winter 2009" in my post. *shrug*

Copied over from the in-game message boards:
Message 21 : Fri Nov 14 (the master of goodness) :: Christmas 2008
Denizens of the Jedi realm,
Greetings!
You will be pleased to know that I have been chosen for the task of decorating the realm for Christmas this year. The mages of the High Tower of Sorcery brought forth a committee dedicated to making sure that the entirety of the Jedi-world was properly ornamented this year, given some of the utter fiascoes that have taken place around the winter holiday time in recent years. Well, fear not! Though it was a close race between myself and the Master of the black robes, the Grand Mistress herself cast the tie breaking vote in my favor, so there will be no skulls and blood sacrifices for your Yuletide enjoyment. Exactly what I am doing, however, must remain a secret, at least for the time being. Suffice it to say that I have started a most wondrous series of incantations that, if successful, will make the holidays especially festive!
I'm looking forward to providing your holiday cheer! -The Master of goodness

Have let the denizens of the realm know that I will be providing the decorations for the festivities this Christmas. General response seems positive. Will proceed with work accordingly. No rush -- slow and steady. No mistakes. If I manage to foul this project up, the Master of the black robes will never let me live it down. He's such a... well. If you can't say anything nice...
In any case, the magical foundation has been laid, and it ought to be left to settle for a couple of days before I attempt to build upon it with further incantations. Success will mean that not only will I be a shoe-in for the position next year, but it will be significantly easier to do.

I cannot believe that the fools are letting that do-gooder be in charge of the annual festivities this year! After the darkness and evil of the last 2 years, I really thought that the mud was going in an excellent direction towards evil! If the Master of Goodie-two-shoes succeeds in his mission, then the entire world will pay. Evil shall take over....I swear it!

I look forward to killing anything you put in front of me this year Ari. Me personally i love the way last years was set up ... umpteen bagillion elves running far and wide to hide from the Crazed Santa's. And could you blame them... they hit like trucks Anyways ... i look forward to any quest ... may it be Holiday 2008, X-mas 2008, or even Final Quest 2008. Mike

Have run into a slight snag. Initial testing shows the magic as sound, but still, the results vary quite erratically, with no rhyme or reason whatsoever. Well, no matter, the delay should be but slight, and there are still weeks of time with which to perfect my work.
Finally, I can have something to lord over the Master of the black robes.
Pompous jerk.

Ah. I've gotten around my little snag. It was a mere trifle. Things are progressing quite well now. The little elves are especially cute, though they seem to be quite shy. I think they're -afraid- of the trees, which is quite funny when you think about it. In fact, I think they're afraid of -everything-. Hmm.
My projections actually fell short of what I've managed to do here.
I can't wait to see the look on his -face-.

Something is a bit strange here... but I can't put my finger on it.
Further investigation is needed.
I best not catch him meddling with my work again...
I can only hope that I was able to stop him before any damage was done.

Something has gone terribly, terribly wrong. Damn him.
I only hope I can contain it before things get out of control...

The Christmas quest starts tomorrow! Here's some general information:
* This quest will run for seven days.
* This quest is being run via lots of quest-specific mobs running around.
* All of the mobs in this quest are soloable.
* Every single mob in this quest has the possibility to load control parts.
* Since the load_item_on_death proc was fixed, I made extensive use of it.
* Keywords for items are christmas1 through christmas6.
* Standard claim rules, as always, do apply. In the case of something loaded via load_item_on_death, this means that the object dropped on the floor when the mob dies belongs to the person that killed the mob.

The denizens of the realm seem to be making short work of my creations.
I havent seen many of those shy little elves, though... hmm.
I bet they're hiding.
Who could blame them?
